“City Zen” is all about life in the big city. Back when I wrote it, I had just moved to London and spent my first winter freezing away in a badly isolated flat without heating. I had spent my last savings on one of these mobile radiators, only to realise that it was faulty. At the time of writing it, I truly felt like it wouldn’t matter how hard I tried, I wouldn’t be able to ever live comfortably, afford my own property or work my way up in that city.
