Growing up without male role models and with a lack of paternal guidance can bring about a lot of disadvantages in a boy's life, but nothing can stop a boy's innate drive to learn, educate himself and eventually discover his own masculinity. "Initiation" is about that discovery. The second verse speaks to all of these women and mothers in our society who turn boys against their fathers and isolate their paternal counterparts from their own children throughout their childhood. Many mothers have to learn that a boy needs a father to look up to and that messing up a father-son relationship is abusive motherhood. I came up with the chord progression on my acoustic guitar, but then sampled each guitar string individually to layer them up with different effects to form the chords.
